Wasserleutung was a water line build by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the city of Cugir, Alba county, Romania at the beginning of the last century.
It's a huge pipe that used to carry water from a rver to a turbine placed in old arms factory. The water was used to spin the turbine and generate electricity for the entire city. It was also used to fill a water tower in order to have a clean water reserve for the entire city. It was in service 'til the year 1948 when it was shut down.
Now there is a path in the woods from the old water tower to the river along the old pipe. It's a nice one hour walk, crossing three rock bridges built at the time by the Austro-Hungarian administration of Transylvania. ... Read more
